Transitioning From Email

On December 11th, I decided to delete all of my social media (besides Facebook, please do not ask any questions) and proceeded to text approximately twenty of my friends and asked them to send me their personal emails. From then on out I have sent frequent emails is masses to my friends telling them about a song I have enjoyed, a trip I have taken, film I have developed, or a quote that I cannot get out of my head. It has been fun. When my friends answer me in email format, it makes my day. I have decided to transition from emailing. Although emailing has been delightful, the idea of having an accessible platform that I can look back at my emails throughout time seems desirable. I just sent out my final email announcing my move across the country.

I have spent a lot of time talking about doing things despite fear in my emails and the announcement of this move seems like the perfect time to start a new format of sharing my life (or at least parts of it). In my final email I shared quotes (both from songs and books) that have been rattling around my brain when I have been deciding whether I am making the right decision packing up my life that I cherish here in Portland, Maine for something new. I will share two with you here. They come from two of my favorite authors. The first being a Joan Didion quote (if you continue to read my posts, I am sure that you will stumble across more of these). The quote goes as follows: “Everything goes. I am working very hard at not thinking about how everything goes”. The next quote was written by Deborah Levy (another name you will probably hear again). “It was futile to try to fit an old life into a new life”. I do not feel that I need to offer much elaboration on either of these quotes that I cannot seem to let go of.

In my final email, I also spoke of the list I have created of things that are non negotiable I need to do before I back up my Subaru and begin my drive across the country. The list includes things as mundane as finding a place to live in Seattle and quitting my current job. The list also includes my desire for a final hike up Mount Washington, eating a tuna mango maki roll at Mr. Tuna, and giving everyone I love a very tight hug. Welcome to my blog!! I apologize in advance for my inability to design a website. I am a strong believer the content is more important than the appearance.
